Hi! It’s Brooke here and those of you who know me, know I am a passionate animal lover. I have rescued many birds that have fallen out of nests; I’ve cared for baby squirrels; I’ve recently signed up to be a volunteer at The Shed Aquarium. Honestly, I think I love animals more than humans–no offense to my fellow homo sapiens, but animals have a special place in my heart and that is 100% the reason why I feel they have no place in my stomach.
So we admit it. We are a bit biased when it comes to food from New York. I cannot recall a time that Brooke and I have visited New York, where these five NY Food Groups have not been a culinary requirement : New York Pizza, New York Cheese Steak, New York Family-Owned Restaurant Italian Food, New York Desserts, and of course New York Bagels. And we are happy to say, all have amazing gluten free options! While we enjoy a plethora of other iconic treats from NY, here are our top five must haves on every trip when we return to the Big Apple:
Last spring I ended up in Emergency Room three times in a week with the worst stomach ache I’ve ever had in my entire life. My parents thought it had to be my appendix or gall bladder. After numerous tests, the doctors could find nothing wrong and sent me home with painkillers. A week later, the pain was so unbearable and I began vomiting blood (sorry if tmi) and this time I was admitted into the hospital for four nights. After extensive testing, and thousands of dollars in medical bills (sorry Mom and Dad), it turned out that I have a gluten allergy. Read more
